Coffee and water rule:
Every time you drink a sweet coffee drink (or soda or anything naughty) drink a whole cup of water first!

Water tip: to make your water less boring, add a few orange slices! I drink quite a bit of water every day, so my Starbucks helps me keep things interesting in my cup :)

Stay hydrated this beautiful summer everyone!!

“I have seen many of your posts encouraging the drinking of water. I know how important drinking water is but it seems to taste unpleasant and I find myself wanting sugary/fizzy drinks (such as pre-made fruit juices, lemonade and occasionally coca cola). I was wondering if you have any suggestions on how to drink more water or ways of finding it more pleasant?”

Hey girl!

I’ve been asked the same question so many times lately, which is good I guess because that means my followers are starting to understand how important it is to stay hydrated!

Honestly, the best way to get yourself to drink water- is to be strong and increase your water intake even though you don’t enjoy it. If you really make a habit out of replacing ALL sodas and juices with just water, I promise within 21 days (which is how long it takes to form a habit) you’re going to be CRAVING water.

Here’s some tips to help you start out:

How to boost your water intake

Start slow, start with 3-4 glasses a day. Drink one glass before every meal, a glass right before you wake up and a glass right before bed. You’ll be up to your goal in no time. After a while, you’re going to be so used to drinking it, that you’ll feel really dehydrated when you don’t.

I’d print this chart out and put it on your fridge!

Water tips

A trick I tried and really LOVED, was adding fruit to my water. Just a few slices of lemons, or even some strawberries and cucumbers will make it taste SO refreshing and delicious.

Good luck, keep me posted on your progress!! You can do it, I promise :)

“If it takes 21 days, even when I hate water, but I try to drink at least 1L a day, it won't be that harder in 21 days?”
-comeonsmile

Yeah girl!

I’m kind of confused what you’re asking, but yes it takes 21 days to make a habit stick. If you push through drinking the right amount of water for your body weight/height for 21 days, it will be MUCH easier to continue after that!

On a personal note, I used to REALLY not like drinking water. I would drink soda, juice, and everything BUT water. Then, I realized how important water is for our body and I really pushed myself to start drinking more.

Spruce up your water!
do what ever it takes to stay hydrated throughout the day. I get a LOT of questions as to how to start liking water if you’re not used to drinking it… this is a GREAT way to start!
Add your favorite fruit :) Also, if you want to sweeten things up a bit- add a bit of honey as well!

So my Dad’s doctor told him a few weeks ago that he has to go from drinking literally NO water (he drinks a lot of coffee) to 8 glasses…
So my boyfriend went out and bought him 2 flats of those huge bottles of water with 10 bottles in each flat.
Guess how many bottles he’s taken in the last two weeks?
There’s only three bottle missing… and my boyfriend and I both took one.
Am I going to tattle on him to his Doctor? YOU BET I AM!
He doesn’t get to cheat on his water consumption when he has The Fitspirational Blonde as his daughter.

Water Weight
So you go out for the night and don’t eat the healthiest options, the next day you step on the scale and the scale went up! You freak out that your night out made you gain weight. RELAX. What the scale is showing you is water weight.
What is water weight? Water weight is fluid retention. It is when your body is holding on to all the water in your body. This can cause you to get bloated, and see a higher number on the scale.
Why does this happen? This can happen for many reasons. Increased sodium intake, too many processed foods, not getting enough protein, not drinking enough water.
Not drinking enough water? Yes! The more water you drink the less water your body will retain. This is because when you drink a lot of water your body signals the organs that it is okay to let go of some of the water.
How to get rid of water weight? By drinking more water, cutting out processed and high sodium foods, sweating, cutting carbs.
Cutting carbs- although cutting carbs can help you lose water weight this will not help you lose fat. This is also not healthy. Many fad diets promise large amounts of weight loss in a small amount of time by drastically cutting carbs, however  this weight will be gained back very quickly because it is not actually fat loss.
Water weight and fat are very different. This is why you should not freak out if you see a higher number on the scale. Fat is burned by being active, building muscle, and eating a proper amount of calories for your body.
So in conclusion if you see a high number of gain or loss on the scale in a rapid amount of time it is most likely water weight. Also make sure to get enough water everyday!

This is a great mini-read guys! It’s important to understand that your body retains water, and it’s NOT fat.
That’s why I’m always pushing how important it is NOT to judge your success by that number on the scale. That number means nothing.
Stay hydrated, stay confident.

Take a second right now to think… have you had any water in the last hour?
If not, stop scrolling and drink just one glass.
Depending on your body type, you should be drinking 6-8 glasses EVERY DAY. more than 60% of the population doesn’t even drink 3 glasses.
Work your way up to 6-8 glasses. START NOW!

But really, it’s so hot outside. Sometimes when you think your body is telling you you’re hungry, it’s actually screaming for water.
Try drinking a glass of water before your next meal. Wait 5 minutes and then go for food.
You will eat less because your body will be able to tell the difference between dehydration and hunger!
College tip- if you have a day PACKED with classes like I do, bring a water bottle with you! If you keep yourself hydrated, you’ll be less tempted to grab a soda when you start sweating walking from class to class.

Restaurant tips: choose water over soda!

image

I’m out to lunch with my best friend at this adorable new cafe that just opened up in beautiful San Diego. We both ordered water at lunch, which inspired this post!

3 reasons why you should choose water over soda at a restaurant:

1.) Price- If you’re constantly ordering soft drinks when you dine out, you’re basically spending money to deteriorate your health. Save yourself the $2.75 glass of sugary cavaties, and stick with pure water!

2.) Lemon water- Adding a lemon to your water has so many health benefits. Mindbodygreen.com says it has a great source of vitamin C, balances your PH levels, aids weight loss because it balances your Alkaline levels. I don’t know about you, but I’d much rather be improving my health at lunch then deteriorating it.

3.) Hydration- Did you know soda actually dehydrates your body? When you drink soda, it tricks your body into thinking it wants salty foods. Thus, you’ll be more likely to order an unhealthy option on the menu. Also, a lot of the time when you think you’re hungry- you’re actually just dehydrated. By drinking water before every meal, you’ll eat less.
